single.is Terms of Use

1. Parties and scope

single.is (the “Service”) is operated by Papaya ehf., company ID 430317-0160, Bleikjukvísl 11, 110 Reykjavík, Iceland (“Papaya”, “we”). Contact: single@single.is.

These Terms govern account creation and use of the app. By actively accepting them at registration, you enter into an agreement with Papaya under these Terms and the [Community and Safety Rules](COMMUNITY_GUIDELINES_EN.md). The [Privacy Policy](PRIVACY_POLICY_EN.md) explains data processing; it is not consent to processing that requires separate consent.

If you do not accept the Terms, do not create or use an account. Explicit sensitive-matching consent and optional AI consent are requested separately and can be withdrawn in Settings.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18, use your own identity, provide accurate information, have legal capacity to enter this agreement, and not use a new account to evade a suspension or ban.

Papaya uses Kenni for electronic identity and age verification. Verification reduces risk but does not guarantee another user’s intentions, conduct, or safety.

3. Account security

Your account is personal and non-transferable. Do not share access, create an account for another person, or provide misleading information. Notify single@single.is promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.

Papaya may reasonably require re-verification for security, conflicting information, or suspected evasion.

4. Initial-release scope

The initial Service is designed for adults who choose to meet a person of the opposite sex. This describes the current product scope and is not a judgement by Papaya about other relationships or sexual orientations. The scope is shown before sensitive-matching consent is requested.

5. Matching

The system calculates advisory compatibility from information users provide, including age preferences, profile information, and ranked answers. Papaya may use this to prepare an introduction. A Papaya team member reviews and approves the final introduction before it is sent.

Each user decides whether to accept an introduction, a time or venue change, and the date itself. Papaya does not promise a particular number or frequency of introductions, a specific score or outcome, attendance by another user, continued communication, or complete accuracy of user-provided information.

6. Sensitive matching and AI

Gender choices and answers may reveal information about sex life or sexual orientation. They are used for matching only while explicit, informed matching consent remains active. Withdrawal stops new matching and also withdraws AI consent, while account settings and privacy rights remain available.

Gemini advice is optional and requires separate consent. When both people have consented, Gemini may compare pseudonymised answer patterns or rank venue and time options. Names, national IDs, profile IDs, email addresses, phone numbers, photos, and messages are not sent to Gemini for these purposes. See the [AI Matching Notice](AI_MATCHING_NOTICE_EN.md).

AI output is advisory, may be wrong, and is not a fact about a person. Papaya does not make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects solely by automated means. Declining AI does not prevent rule-based matching and human review.

7. Conduct

Respect consent, privacy, boundaries, and another person’s right to stop. You must not harass, threaten, stalk, use hate speech, send unsolicited sexual content, impersonate others, defraud or solicit money, disclose another person’s private information, facilitate unlawful exploitation, scrape data, automate abuse, evade access controls, or interfere with security.

The Community and Safety Rules form part of these Terms.

8. User content

You retain ownership of your photos, text, and other content. You grant Papaya a limited, royalty-free, revocable licence, sublicensable only to processors, to host, technically transform, copy, and display that content solely as needed to operate, secure, and improve the Service under these Terms and the Privacy Policy.

You confirm that you have the required rights and that your content does not infringe others’ rights. The licence ends when the content or account is deleted, subject to temporary backups and narrowly required legal retention. Papaya does not use profile photos or private messages to train a general AI model.

9. Safety actions and reports

You can end a relationship, block another user, and report conduct or content in the app. We may remove content, restrict features, pause matching, suspend or close accounts, or preserve narrowly necessary information when reasonably required for safety, investigation, law, or legal claims.

We consider context, severity, repetition, available evidence, and risk. We aim to give a reason and review route where that would not delay urgent action, harm another person, or compromise an investigation. Appeals can be sent to single@single.is.

10. In-person safety

Papaya is not a party to user communications or dates and is not an emergency service. Meet in public, arrange your own transport, tell a trusted person, and do not share financial or identity credentials. Call 112 in an emergency.

11. Credits and Apple purchases

The Service may offer a free monthly credit and paid additional credits. Price and conditions are shown before purchase. iOS purchases are processed by Apple and are also subject to Apple’s payment and refund rules.

Promotional credits have no cash value, are non-transferable, and do not accumulate beyond the displayed limit. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

12. Papaya intellectual property

Papaya’s software, marks, design, and content are protected. You receive a limited, personal, revocable, non-transferable licence for ordinary use of the Service and no other rights.

13. Availability and liability

We aim to provide a secure, reliable Service but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access, error-free operation, matching outcomes, or third-party conduct. We may change or pause features for development, maintenance, security, law, or events beyond reasonable control.

Nothing limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited or mandatory consumer rights. Otherwise, Papaya is responsible only for foreseeable direct loss caused by its culpable breach and is not responsible for indirect loss, user communications, or incidents on dates except where mandatory law provides otherwise.

14. Pause, termination, and deletion

You may pause matching, withdraw consent, and permanently delete your account in the app. Active sessions are revoked and the Auth account, profile, photos, and associated active data are deleted. Backups expire on their schedule, and narrowly limited records may remain only where law or an existing legal claim requires them.

Papaya may suspend or terminate an account for serious or repeated breach, safety risk, fraud, legal obligation, or Service closure. Where feasible, reasonable notice and a route for privacy requests will be provided.

15. Changes, law, and disputes

Material changes will be notified in advance where required. Fresh consent will be requested when the processing or law requires it; continued use alone is not explicit consent to new sensitive-data processing or AI sharing.

Icelandic law applies. Contact single@single.is first to seek resolution. Consumers may use competent complaint or supervisory bodies and courts. Mandatory rights are not restricted.
